Some situations such as when your thermostat starts requiring a frequent charge-up, or you keep receiving low battery warnings indicate that your Nest thermostat actually needs a battery for its proper working.

1.5 voltage AAA batteries need a quicker replacement than the rechargeable batteries because these batteries drain out much faster. Once you start receiving low battery warnings then you will have to replace the batteries within a month or two.

Your thermostat’s charging time depends on its current battery situation. If the battery is partially drained then it will take about 30-40 minutes to get charged.
However, if your thermostat is fully drained then 2 hours would be more than enough to get it fully and properly charged.
HOW DO I FIGURE OUT WHETHER MY THERMOSTAT IS FULLY CHARGED OR NOT?
Once you insert a USB cable to charge your thermostat then a light will start blinking. This blinking light will indicate that your thermostat is currently being charged. Once this light disappears, it is time to remove the USB cable and start using your thermostat.
Of course, Nest thermostats have batteries which keep them going when the power from the main source isn’t present. These internal batteries are rechargeable which means you as a user can charge them for your later use.
