Ecobee thermostats are built using the latest technologies. They have unique sensors which allow them to learn the patterns of your environment and adjust the temperature accordingly. However sometimes these smart features could become annoying for you when they stop working in the intended way.
Same thing happened with me last night. I was chilling while reading a book when I started feeling hot. What was that? I had no idea. I got up and went straight to my thermostat and found that its AC isn’t working anymore. Boom! Was it the end? Of course not!
As a part time technician, I had a consolation that the problem in every smart product comes along with a fix. I searched for the fix and found out many. I will be gladly sharing those with you.
ECOBEE NOT TURNING ON AC:
It is possible that sometimes your Ecobee thermostat shows you a fluctuation by turning ON the AC for a few seconds and then turning it OFF immediately. This is the sign which indicates that Ecobee turns ON fan but not AC.
ECOBEE AIR CONDITIONER NOT TURNING ON – REASONS EXPLAINED!
Following are some of the reasons which play a role of contributing factors for the above mentioned issue.
OVERFILLED DRAINAGE PAN:
A drainage pan or drain pan in the thermostats are meant to collect liquid present in HVAC system. These liquids are drained outside from time to time so water accumulation doesn’t occur. In case of water accumulation, different living organisms can grow such as algae or fungus in your basement. In this case, your Ecobee won’t turn ON at all to prevent immense damage.
Other than this, if you don’t take a quick action when the drain pan has been overfilled then you will experience excessive moisture in your surroundings which might cause various dangerous allergies and structural problems.
CLOGGED DRAIN LINES:
There are drain lines associated with your AC unit. The job of these lines is to take water from the AC unit to outside. If these drain lines get all clogged up then the water flow will stop and your Ecobee might turn ON the AC.
SIGNS OF CLOGGED LINES:
If you want to be sure that the drain lines of your AC unit are clogged then look for the below mentioned signs.
- The system is giving OFF hot air instead of cool air
- The AC might not turn ON
- Presence of condensation in the surrounding
- The unit might turn OFF automatically after working for a few minutes
- The fan won’t turn ON
If you experience any of these signs then it means the drain lines should be cleaned as soon as possible.
FAULTY CIRCUIT BREAKER OR DAMAGED FUSE:
Ecobee thermostat not working might be due to the presence of a blown fuse or faulty circuit breaker. There is a high possibility that there has been a power outage in your area which might cause your Ecobee thermostat to go all blank or stop cooling. This happens because the fuse might have been damaged due to the providence of insufficient power supply.
Other reason could be that the circuit breaker has been damaged. Every thermostat has its own circuit breaker which is responsible to turn the AC ON and OFF as per your requirements. Damaged circuit breaker means that compressor will stop working.
AC MODE ADJUSTMENT:
With lots of exciting features, Ecobee thermostat also provides another cool feature of Home/Away. It means that the thermostat will turn ON the AC if you are home and will turn it OFF once you are gone. You always provide a temperature value to your thermostat for turning ON the AC. Suppose you have entered 60 degrees, now what will happen that the AC will not turn ON until the temperature reaches 60 degrees.
Moreover, there is a thing called compressor cycle-off time. During this duration, the AC unit of your thermostat will not work.
FAULTY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM:
Sometimes the issue lies within the system itself. If you experience Ecobee thermostat not turning ON AC error then it might hint towards your system being damaged. To ensure this possibility, look for the below mentioned signs.
